Purpose: Use this job aid to learn more about monitoring methods.
Your employer will use several methods to detect hazardous chemicals in the workplace. Monitoring may be accomplished by placing a sampling device with a filter near your breathing zone or in and around your work area.
Taking samples in the breathing zone is called personal monitoring. Medical monitoring examines a worker's response and biological changes before and after exposure to a hazardous chemical occurs.
You may be required to participate in these monitoring programs if your job requires you to work with hazardous chemicals.
