Job Aid

Supervisor Responsibilities

Purpose: Use this job aid to learn about a supervisor's responsibilities regarding hazardous chemicals.

Your employer, through its supervisors, must

  1. Identify all jobs that require the use of hazardous chemicals and list those chemicals, their quantities, and areas of use. This information should be kept current and provided to the employees responsible for maintaining the hazardous substance list.
  2. Provide and document training to all employees prior to their working with hazardous chemicals.
  3. Periodically inspect engineering controls – for example, ventilation and enclosures – and personal protective equipment – for example, respirators and safety goggles.
  4. Ensure required labeling practices are being followed.
