Purpose: Use this aid to learn more about the training requirements for employers.
Your employer is required to train you prior to assigning you to work with a potentially hazardous chemical, and whenever the hazard or chemical changes. Training may be done either by individual chemicals or by hazard categories. Training must include work area-specific information.
Training will include
- requirements of the Hazard Communication Standard
- details of your employer's written Hazard Communication Program
- location and availability of the written Hazard Communication Program, chemical inventories, and SDSs
- operations where hazardous chemicals are present
- methods of detecting hazardous chemical releases
- physical and health hazards of chemicals in the workplace
- methods to protect yourself using safe work practices, emergency procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
