Purpose: Use this job aid to learn about hazard communication programs.
The Hazard Communication standard requires your employer to implement a Hazard Communication written program. The written program is available upon request. At a minimum, the written program should include the following elements:
- purpose – a statement of the purpose of the document
- hazard evaluation – a description of who performs the hazard evaluation and the resulting chemical inventory list information
- labeling – a description of who is responsible for all aspects of labeling, and detailed information on the labeling system used at your company
- Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) – a description of who is responsible for maintaining SDSs, how they're maintained, and detailed information on the SDS access system in use at your company
- training – a description of who is responsible for training, how training is conducted and recorded at your company, and how training is kept up-to-date for new employees and when conditions change
- hazards of nonroutine tasks – special considerations for nonroutine tasks
- contractor employees – details on hazard communication information exchange with contractor employers and employees
- information – name of who to go to and how to obtain any kind of hazard communication information, or a copy of the program or the standard
